Animation Soundtrack

"Come along, catch a Heffalump Sit with me on a muddy clump We'll sing a song of days gone by Run along now, don't be glum Get you gone, now, have some fun Don't be long, for the end is nigh Don't let moments pass along And waste before your eyes March with me and the borogroves Come with me and the slithy toves And never ask us why Come, come, come, come, come along now Run away from the hum-drum We'll go to a place that is safe from Greed, anger and boredom We'll dance and sing 'til sundown And feast with abandon We'll sleep when the morning comes And we'll rise by the sound of the birdsongs We'll be here when the world slows down And the sunbeams fade away Keeping time by a pendulum As the fabric starts to fray There's no such thing as time to kill Nor time to throw away So, once for the bright sky, twice for the pig sty Thrice for...

Character Designs

At first I decided on six main characters that were all part of the circus. Each one is a different animal but all of them apart from the raven would use the same type of armature as the main character that would be the mouse. The lion is the ring master and is uncharge of the circus while all the other animals just perform as part of the group. The mouse is the main character within my narrative. He sees the circus and befriends all the other animals and is then convinced he wants to run away with them. This is the design of the armature I used to create his body with, after looking at many other armature designs on Pinterest, I eventually planned to use wire inside allowing maximum flexibility but also durability. This was the first attempt at the mouse armature. The clay worked really well at keeping the wire together and created a solid base that would have been great for painting on top of or covering in fabric. The real issue was with the arm and leg j...

Animation Storyboard

During quarantine, I’ve been using my time to create a final major that promotes an optimistic, hopeful theme of doing what you love and seizing the day. The inspiration came partly from the current Corona virus situation as it’s difficult to feel satisfied with life, so decided to produce an animation allowing me to pursue something I love and look forward to working on. The story follows a character who wants to run away from the toxic people in his life and the mundane nature of his daily life. After meeting a group of people who love him and inspire him, he decides to follow his dreams and join their circus. At the beginning of this project, I started by writing the story out and deciding what imagery would fit with the flow of the music. This took a lot of re-listening to the song to figure out which parts were more fast paced and which bits were more slow and relaxed. I tried to place the scenes with the most action in during the chorus to emphasis the key moments within the...

Hand Animation Experiment

I decided to do a quick practice animation to test the software I used to use when I was younger. The app is called iMotion and while its pretty basic, limited to only manually taking photos or making time lapses. The app doesn't really allow individual frames to be removed or imported meaning that all the photos taken have to be perfect or the whole scene has to be redone. The animation runs at 18 frames per second to make it look a little smoother. The second half of the animation looks a lot better than the first because I started moving the fingers more individually making the movement appear a little more realistic, as if the fingers are actually dragging the hands. The only issue was the lighting flashing toward the end. I’m still a little unsure as as to whether the flash was caused by my own shadow making one of the frames appear darker than the others, or if it was caused by the two light sources being inconsistent. However, I am pretty sure it must have been the form...
